Had a super busy but absolutely great week FULL of events.
TUESDAY- Started off Tuesday by attending the sold-out (in 3 minutes) Lyrix Organix event – ‘NAS: TIME IS ILLMATIC’ film screening feat CHESTER P / JONZI D / SKITZ / DJ SNIPS at Dalston Roof Park
The event was full of amazing Hip-Hop history, epic rappers and poets, cool new business projects and artistic attendees from all over. It was great to work alongside some great people from Lyrix Organix. As they put it, they ”pride [themselves] on creating memorable, unusual and experiential one-off productions” and their resume is wholly representative of this seeing as theyve worked with Glastonbury festival and Ed sheeran just to name a few. If you haven’t already- click here to check them out!
WEDNESDAY- I was very kindly asked to review a performance by Laura Doggett at XOYO by the PR company CharmFactory.
Being honest, I didn’t expect much from Doggett seeing as she is still classified as a new act, but boy was I wrong. Her recordings certainly do not do her justice! The venue was absolutely packed and her voice encompassed the entire audience. I’ll let a recording speak for itself.
Totally impressed by how Laura can flit between deep and delicate high notes in a way eta james was profoundly renowned for. She was later joined by one of her opening acts, Alice Jemima, for a song they co-wrote. This is definitely a personal fav. Alice’s angelic, ‘sweet as pie’ voice moulded extremely well with Laura’s strong yet delicate vocals.
FRIDAY & SATURDAY- Unfortunately (due to a crazy routine) I made it down to The Great Escape a day late but this certainly didn’t take away from the experience. Brighton was a music lover’s paradise with more bands and talent than one could ever wish for and absolutely beautiful weather. Very happy that I got the chance to experience two takes on the event as an attendee and whilst working there. If you didn’t get the chance to this year (or even if you have) sign up to volunterr next year- it is not one to miss!
